So, (I promise this is going somewhere) whenever I spend time with my mom I always learn the most wonderful things. She is the queen of Frazzle-Free-Multi-Tasking. Seriously, she gets more done in one day (most of it before I even wake up) than I dream of in a lifetime. But the thing I admire most about my mother (and plan on doing a whole blog post on the subject one of these days) is that she has perfected the art of enjoying the moment. So when the kids wanted to make, bake, and decorate a birthday cake for Mandy, she let them. Whereas I (and my selfish need for cleanliness and control) would have done it myself and maybe let them watch. But as it turned out, the kids had an awesome time. They learned a lot. The cake looked and tasted superb. And the kids were OH-SO-PROUD! . . . Love you, mom.

Isaac also had a birthday. He turned 4 which means he can do anything he wants to without my permission - or so he thinks. He really wanted to have a Chitty Bang Bang birthday party (again!) but at the last minute (much to our relief) decided on a Magic School Bus party. He's really into vehicles that can change into something else. So for the first time ever, Isaac had a Magic School Bus-Cousins-Swimming-Pizza-Birthday Party. And I even let him help decorate the cake! Happy birthday IsaacMan! (may we all survive another year. . .)

Looks like tons of fun!! You must be having a blast with your family this summer!! I wanted to stay longer when I was out there visiting family.... Jealousy...oh love your blogs!!!
I wish I could be more like your mom, too! It's fun you've been able to spend so much time with your family. I'd love some of that fried ice cream...it looks really yummy.
It was so fun to have your boys at MY birthday, and to be there for Isaac's (especially since I was almost there for his ACTUAL birthday, was it really 4 years ago?)
