The boys (and Nate) have been living and breathing Axis and Allies lately. Their games last for days (weeks?) - the game board being constantly transported from one location to another so that they can pick up right where they left off no matter what. And when they're not playing, they're watching WWII (or World War Eleven - Brigham still doesn't believe us that 11 = 2 in roman numerals) documentaries and plotting their next game moves. I snapped this picture this morning because somehow it just seems fitting for Memorial Day.I'm also posting some random footage of our morning. I was at the stove making french toast, with the spatula in one hand and the camera in the other. Nate was outside watering the grass. Brigham was "helping" him. In the video Briggs comes in soaking from head to toe showing me his goggles and explaining (long-windedly) how daddy squirted him in the face. Meanwhile, in the background, Clayton and Isaac are setting up breakfast. . . picnic-style. I asked them to set the table but they didn't want to move their Axis and Allies game again. And they just assumed the family (me) would have no problem eating french toast on the floor. Eliza is running through the scene too - busy as a bee cleaning up after them. Lydia was asleep. Sorry. Otherwise you would have seen (heard) her too. Welcome to our life.
Only three more days of school. And it's mostly just parties (that I'm supposed to be in charge of) and clean-up. Then Summer, here we come! We splurged and signed Clayton and Isaac up for science camp at the Natural History Museum next week. They're pumped. After that, besides a road trip to Utah, it's Emily Smith's Super Summer Program we go. Which I’ve promised the kids will be loads of
which may or may not include an in depth study of roman numerals.

What a wonderful and crazy life. When Allen and I were young we would have monopoly games that would last for days and into weeks! It is so fun that way. Of course you need to eat on the floor so that you don't disturb the game. I hope that your trip to Utah includes some time to catch up with me! Let me know when you will be here. I MUST meet those beautiful Smith girls.
How fun!!! I felt like I was back there in your living room, with all of the activity and talking (dare I say... slightly yelling)going on. This scene could be made into a cute Fathers Day message.....go Nate! But, Emily, don't you dare stay up all night doing it in between feeding Lydia! Let the one-handed video while making french toast suffice for now. It was hilarious! I wanted to laugh with, and give Brigham a big hug through the computer.
