Nate's BYU Blue Birthday

Nate had a birthday this month.  We partied it up with decorations, presents, and his favorite lemon cake. We're party animals, what can we say?

 The kids decorated with blue balloons for BYU of course.

 And blue candy

 Which they sampled all afternoon.

 We had glazed lemon cake with blue frosting.

 Lydia and Eliza took charge of the candles.

 There were a lot of candles.  They used every single one in our house.

 And it still wasn't enough.  That's how old we are now.  Sad, huh.

 Eliza's favorite part of helping was sampling the blue frosting.  Mmm. . .

  Nate used two lighters at the same time to light all these before he blew them out.  He did it in one breath too.  That's a lot of wishes to come true.

 In "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother", Amy Chua "rejects" a handmade birthday card her daughter made with "very little thought or effort".  I was proud to see my kids make cards that definitely didn't fit that category.  Isaac spent hours drawing an extremely detailed picture of a battleship on the "brink of destruction" (which Nate thought was a little ominous for a birthday card).  Brigham drew a picture of a hedgehog in a fighter plane and wrote a thoughtful note. Eliza's was pink.  Clayton's birthday card for Nate was beyond awesome.  Check it out.

 Pretty impressive, right?  Paper and toothpicks. And a little tape.

 Nate loved them all and even took the cards to work with him the next day.

Next time we get another afternoon with you, we'll have to go fly your 50 inch, three-dimensional, ripstop fabric, P-40 Warhawk kite (with spintails) that you got for your birthday.

We love you.
