Eliza Goes To a Real Zoo. . . Finally.

Last month Eliza's friend was talking about the zoo.  Eliza listened intently - her eyes getting bigger.  Finally, in awe, she blurted, "You mean. . . you've been to a real zoo?" Ouch, right?  So I did the only decent thing a mom can do, I scheduled a family outing to the zoo.  The real one.
We all had a blast. The boys were as excited as ever.  It's been a few years, I guess. . . where does the time go?
Eliza was unsure of the real animals at first.

We loved watching this baby Sifaka lemur being fed leaves by his mama.
The boys, after watching this giant moss-covered turtle do nothing forever and debating whether or not it was a rock, were excited to witness it finally climb out of the water. Proof that it was indeed real.
The elephants were friendly.  This one kept waving and blowing kisses through the fence.

The youngest orangutan gave us quite an acrobatic show.
The tigers were out prowling.  I love how this one matches the shape of the rock.

We even ran into Brigham's best friend from school near the cougar habitat who reminded us it was Star Wars Day - May the 4th be with you.  Isaac was glad he wore his Stars Wars shirt.
These two brother cougars chased each other, wrestled and snarled.
They'd climb the rocks and pounce on top of this plexiglass ceiling.  Eliza was terrified.
The spectacled bear was lounging as if posing for a Monet
While the Texas longhorns were showing off their very long horns.
The funny thing is, I enjoy watching my kids at the zoo as much as I like watching animals.  Lydia was scared of the animals at first too.  But gradually she warmed up to them and was happiest when we let her out of the stroller.  Isn't this picture cute?
We only lost Brigham a few times.  One was here when he ran off down a side path after the ducks and pigeons.
I'm still trying to think of a cute caption for this picture.  I love it.
The kids thought these masks were hilarious.
They freaked me out.
And of course they all loved the carousel.

Brigham, our animal lover, spent his money on a very cute stuffed baby rhino.

So there ya go, Eliza.  A real zoo.  And since it was cheaper to buy a family membership than admission for our whole family, and since (after 4 hours) we didn't even make it to an entire section of the zoo, I'm sure we'll be back again soon.  Lucky lucky girl.

How fun. I was just just thinking the other day how Jordan and Caitlin got to go to museums and zoos and other places so often, but we've gone much less since getting into school and having Will. I'm sure it will slow down even more as we have another baby and more kids in school/preschool. It's kind of sad. I'm glad Eliza finally got to go to a real zoo!

I can't wait to see all of you this summer. All those kids are getting big so fast!

Yeah, I remember the days when I used to take my kids to the zoo or the museum every WEEK! Ha! Those days are long gone. . .
