Who's In Rabbit's House?

In lieu of Science Club a while ago (back in 2010 before I looked as pregnant as I do now) I decided to do something more Isaac-style. (not that he doesn't like science experiments and making messes - never fear. It's just that he has a particular flair for theatrics - dressing up, using a boisterous voice, constantly jockeying for the center of attention, etc.) So I hosted a three-day Theater Camp in my living room.

Why did I never post about this? Oh yes. I remember. It's because I was waiting to add the video performance. But I had nightmarish technical complications trying to transfer the video files from my friends camera and then (after wasting a ton of time and still not getting it to work) life moved on and I never got around to editing the final video production. Sigh. So this long forgotten post has been collecting dust on my dashboard for months. But since I am about to use my awesome coupon this week to publish my official 2010 blog book (which I'm sure will be a best-seller. Just let me know if you want to purchase an autographed copy). And since I really want these pictures to be included, I figured I better post this even without the (to die for!) video footage of the actual play. Enjoy the pictures. And when you see these kids on the silver screen someday, you'll know where it all started. . . and the geniuses (ha!) behind it. :)
It all began with a script (based on the book, "Who's in Rabbit's House?" by Verna Aardema) which I originally wrote for my 6th graders in Chicago. . .
some authentic African kanga costumes. . .paper masks - designed and created by the kids themselves. . .
a stage with homemade cardboard scenery. . .

And of course an award-winning cast.Brigham (and the two other younger boys) played the part of "The Long One" - the conniving caterpillar that hides inside Rabbit's House and won't come out. Clayton played the "Rhinoceros" - one of the many animals outsmarted by The Long One. And Isaac, the star of the show, played the "Frog" - who cleverly outwits The Long One and saves the day.
Maybe one of these days (like before 2012) I'll actually figure out the video. Until then, at least I have the pictures to document our smash-hit production.
So watch out Broadway. . .here we come!

Where do you get all your energy?! This is such a cute idea. I can just imagine Isaac eating it all up. I need to get some science project ideas from you. Jordie was so fascinated with the volcano we made that I have been wanting to do some other science things with him and a couple of his friends that he plays with this summer.

Ha! I'm wondering the same thing - where did I get the energy back then? I spend most of my time just living for my next nap nowadays. All my creative juices seem to be gone.

I wish we lived closer to do science club together. My friend who has been doing it with me just moved away. . . so so sad.

Stop. Just STOP. I feel like the day has been successful if the kids have their teeth brushed! You are AMAZING. Can't wait to see the video, I'm sure that Issac brings all the energy and performance one little boy can serve up.
