July 2012 Quote Book

Isaac was playing with Lydia.
"Lydia's cute now. But when her hair gets longer and when she gets freckles, she'll be beautiful."
yes. . . long hair and freckles. the sign of true beauty. :)

I wore an ankle-length dress (think 90's) to church today for "Pioneer Day" in primary. Brigham took one look at me this morning and, without me even mentioning why I was wearing my favorite college dress, asked:
"Why are you wearing that costume?"
see? even my six-year-old knows my clothes are outdated. . .

Asya (piano teacher) described the scene when she left Moscow to immigrate to the United States. She said she looked back at the city and saw the familiar monument of a golden bird with outstretched wings. And imagined those wings, the wings of Moscow, "unhugging" her. Letting her go.
"Unhugging is sometimes just as important as hugging."
so true. so beautiful.

Isaac was trying desperately to get out of "counting out loud" during his piano lesson. The song was syncopated. And truth be told, even I would have had a hard time counting while playing. But at least I would have tried. He refused - offering every excuse in the book. Until finally:
"I don't like when sounds come out of my mouth. Most people don't know this about me but I'm a very quiet person."
I just about lost it. I burst into uncontrollable cover-my-face silent laughter. Isaac saw me out of the corner of his eye and burst into tears. His teacher had no idea what just happened.

After playing a song on the piano he particularly liked, Clayton said,
"Mom? I bet there's a lot of music in heaven."
I bet there is. . .

We were getting in the car. Brigham was obviously hiding something in his hands.
Brig: I don't have anything in my hands, just so you know.
Me: What's in your hands!
Brig: Um, just a leaf.
Me: And?
Brig: And a snail.
Me: And?
Brig: And a worm.
Me: Is that all?
Brig: Well, there are actually two worms.
there's a reason we have bugs and slugs living everywhere in our house. I found a snail on my bathroom mirror this morning. ug.
