There have been some pretty heated debates at our house about whether it's better to design your pinewood derby car for style or for speed. The reason being, all three boys entered the Pinewood Derby race this year for the first time. They designed, sanded (which took them a long time), and painted their own cars. Nate did all the cutting and carving. Turns out there is an exact science to building one of these - adding weights, smoothing and placing the wheels just so. Nate and the boys were very meticulous.
On the way to the derby, the car ride conversation pretty much consisted of Isaac and Brigham bragging about how awesome and real their cars were compared to Clayton's flat and boring car. At one point Isaac was explaining that his car was the best because it was fast and looked good. To which Clayton simply said, "Well, I didn't build mine for looks. I built mine to win."
There were actually a lot of really awesome-looking cars there. . .
But in the end the winners were. . . Smith, Smith, and Smith!
Brigham's car took 1st Place in the non-scout division (there were only three cars so each of them placed.) He was pumped.
Isaac's car (by like a fraction of a second) took 3rd place.
And just as Clayton planned, his car placed 1st in the Pinewood Derby.

The best part of all was still the cake. (which Eliza poked her fingers in)
And being congratulated by the bishop.
