All three boys competed on the neighborhood swim team this year - which pretty much took over our lives for the entire months of May and June. These kids swam and swam and swam. And improved so much it was unbelievable. Things also went a lot smoother this year than last. We didn't have any major meltdowns in the middle of the pool, in the middle of a race, in the middle of a swim meet for example. In fact, the boys loved it. They swam in three different age groups and enjoyed having their own friends on their team. Here are a few pictures from two of the meets.
Most of the swim meets are outside. The water was freezing at this indoor meet. Here's Isaac at the ready mark.
Look at that form - first one off the block. Isaac swam in a more difficult heat than the other two. He still did really well and even came home with a 2nd place ribbon in backstroke.
Clayton had some great races. He won a first place ribbon for freestyle and backstroke. But was disqualified during butterfly when he forgot what he was doing and accidentally freestyled it ahead of everyone to the finish line. Oops.
You can see him pulling ahead here during his freestyle race - this one he won legit. My kids are easy to point out because they're the only ones wearing swim shirts (at least until their coaches say to take them off - grrr)

I love his push-off here. He also won a first place ribbon for backstroke. (obviously a Smith specialty)

Here we are at one of the outdoor meets. This is the pre-meet pep rally with the coaches. My boys seriously felt like superstars.

And he's off! No matter how many times the coaches tell him, he still plugs his nose when he dives.

One of the other swimmers jumped the gun in Brigham's heat and they had to start the race again. Brigham's coach is explaining this to him. He looks very confused.

Another first place finish. He was all smiles.
But the best part of all was getting snow cones.
Just kidding. The BEST part was Nate meeting us there on his way home from work.
Thankfully the outdoor pools had playgrounds. Here's what Eliza and Lydia did for 5 hours while the boys were swimming. They had a blast!

Go Dolphins! I know, I know my kids are a little blinding. But at least you can spot them! What a great swim season.
