The Adventure Club

The kids have this thing called the Adventure Club.  Evan is the captain and all the others are ranking officials with titles.  They pretty much just go on adventures up in the mountains and find stuff like deer antlers, gopher skulls, and all sorts of gross bones.  They also make hide-outs and forts in the trees and throw rocks in the ditch. Normally Eliza and Lydia or anyone else that age or especially any grown-ups are not allowed in the club.  We tagged along on a few adventures but it was made clear we are not members of the elite Adventure Club.  Here are a few pictures of some of these "adventures".
Throwing rocks. . .

Isaac jumping in the ditch - fully clothed - to rescue is shoe.
Hiking in the water.
Drying off.
Throwing more rocks.
Cute sisters on the bridge.
Here's everyone heading out on a hike up to the pine trees (a three-hour hike)
Climbing under the barbed wire.
view of the valley part-way up the hill.
Eliza and I lagged WAY behind the rest of the group.  I had to carry her most of the way which, by the way, is not easy when two-thirds of the hike requires ducking through miles of tangled scrub oak trees.  We had to stop to rest a lot.
We almost stepped on a prairie hen nest on the ground with an egg and a baby bird - so tiny.

Here we are further up the hill.  I love Eliza in this picture.
And with my zoom lens, we could see the others at the pine trees further up.
See that clump of pine trees?  That's where they were.
All that hiking made for some very very dirty toes.
The kids are dreaming of their next adventures at the ranch next summer and the return of the Adventure Club!
