Sweet Land of Liberty

I love Oakley. And most days there is no place on earth I'd rather be.  But there is one day in particular that trumps all other days of the year in Oakley. . . and that is the Fourth of July.  I love the gathering of family from far and near. Cousins, aunts, uncles, even distant relatives come for the celebration and to catch up with each other.  I love the food, the patriotic music, the sun, the fireworks, the rodeo. I love that everyone and everything is outside on the 4th of July. I love the smell of the smoky grill, my dad with all the grandkids piled high on the six-wheeler, the horse rides, the parade that still throws candy and where neighbors wave to neighbors from crepe paper festooned trucks. I love eating corndogs and grasshopper shakes at the Polar King. I love the howdys and handshakes and American pride. That's the 4th of July in Oakley.

Let freedom ring!
